The “Paseo Italia” was inaugurated within the framework of the “Italian Immigrant Day” and in tribute to the birth of the general Manuel Belgrano, of Italian descent. However, the monument of the place, which includes the historical figure of Romulus and Remus next to the she-wolf, together with the reference plaque, were the target of a vandal attack last Sunday, June 16, at 11 p.m.
Security cameras captured a group of young people, presumably minors, approaching the monument and proceeding to steal the figure of Remo, in addition to removing the information plate.

Images of the incident quickly spread on social media, generating a wave of outrage. In response, the authorities of the capital municipality intensified their efforts to recover the stolen parts.

Thus, thanks to media pressure, this afternoon the stolen pieces were returned. As municipal sources informed this newspaper, the parts were delivered to the municipality headquarters anonymously, probably in an attempt to avoid further legal consequences.
The mayor, Rossana Chahlaemphasized that vandalism not only damages tangible heritage, but also the community spirit and respect for the history and cultural diversity that characterize San Miguel de Tucumán.
The authorities promised to reinforce security in the area and work on educational programs that promote respect and care for public property. In addition, the installation of more advanced security systems is being evaluated to prevent future acts of vandalism.
