Claims that the Australian cycling team was robbed in Paris spread widely on social media, including on several Facebook accounts. The accounts shared a video showing Australian BMX athlete Logan Martin showing the condition of a car damaged by a robbery.
Editorial team SINDOnews searched for the video. The search results showed that an identical video was uploaded to Logan Martin’s Instagram account on July 24, 2024. In the video, Logan Martin explains that the car he and his friends were riding in was broken into in Brussels, Belgium.
“We had our car broken into last night. Luckily, most of our stuff was in the room and was saved,” wrote Logan Martin.
“I lost my wallet, my backpack and a few other things, but overall it wasn’t too bad. It’s just unfortunate when someone does something like this.”
Quoted ReutersBrussels police confirmed that the incident occurred in the Saint-Josse-ten-Noode area of Belgium. The Australian Olympic Committee also said that the robbery took place before their team left for Paris. They added that most of the stolen items were recovered.
The narrative that the Australian cycling team was robbed in Paris is false. In fact, the robbery took place in Brussels, Belgium, before the team left for Paris. Therefore, the claims circulating on social media are not in accordance with reality.
