Vexatory position that does not correspond to the position, says Boulos of Nunes

The pre-candidate for mayor of São Paulo criticized the current mayor’s declarations of wanting Bolsonaro’s support in the elections

São Paulo’s pre-candidate mayor, federal MP Guilherme Boulos (Psol-SP), said on Tuesday (9 January 2024) that current mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) has adopted a “vexatious position” in asking for support former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will seek re-election. Municipal elections will be held this year.

“When the person is sitting in that chair [de prefeito] he is not the person, he begins to represent an institution and the Bolsonarists have difficulty understanding this,” Boulos said in a conversation with journalists after a PDT event to formalize the party’s support for the deputy.

Boulos said it was “sad” to see Nunes’ public statements about Bolsonaro. The current mayor said so in August “wish” the former president’s support in the mayoral race.

“It is sad to see the mayor of the city where I was born, where I live, of the richest city in the southern hemisphere, humiliate himself behind the support of someone like Jair Bolsonaro. It is this sad sight that we saw in the city of Sao Paulo. It is something beneath the dignity of the office,” he said.

The pre-candidate declared that he wanted to build “a democratic front” to discuss the current situation of “abandonment in which the city finds itself today”, as well as “the measures to be adopted”.

“This year’s elections will also be a moment to reaffirm the democratic victory we achieved in 2022. And what we are seeing in Sao Paulo is that the Bolsonarist camp has taken and adopted the current mayor as its representative. A “bolsonunes” ticket is being created in the city of Sao Paulo,” he said.
