Venezuelan migration in Colombia decreased in 2023

In December 2023, there were 2,864,796 Venezuelans in Colombia, according to Colombian Migration figures, so a reduction of 1.10% was recorded, which is equivalent to 32,000 fewer people than the 2,896,748 registered in December 2022.

“This decline, the first in a decade, reflects the results of the policy of resuming relations implemented between Colombia and Venezuela, and other relevant phenomena,” according to the director of Migration Colombia, Fernando GarcĂa, in the session of the Accidental Commission. of Follow-up to the Restoration of relations with Venezuela, held in the Congress of the Republic.

An increase in the regularized migrant population has also been observed in the country, with 3.4% more income in 2023 compared to the previous year, representing a total of 468,083 people from Venezuela.

The massive regularization process of Venezuelan migrants, begun in 2021, has benefited almost 2.3 million Venezuelan migrants, who thanks to the Protection Statute have access to health services, education or labor rights, among others.

On the other hand, Migration Colombia estimates that there are 227,389 Venezuelan migrants in an irregular situation in the country, since they had the Special Permanence Permit (PEP) but did not transfer to the Special Protection Statute on time.
