Venezuela demands the “immediate retirement” of US military ships

The Chancellor of Venezuela, Yván Gil, demanded on Monday “the immediate retirement of the US military assets of the Caribbean Sea”, in the context of the extraordinary meeting of the community of Latin American and Caribbean states (CELAC).

During his speech, Venezuelan Foreign Minister recalled that USA “has concentrated military assets near the Venezuelan coasts”, among which are eight vessels that have more than 1,200 missiles on board, 4,200 men “trained who have announced that they are ready to invade Venezuela,” he said.

“This is an unprecedented situation from the missile crisis in the 60s, when regional peace was put at risk in an important way,” he said.

Defense of the Peace Zone

«We have seen, according to spokespersons, the presence in the Caribbean of a nuclear submarine with the possibility of launching nuclear weapon. This violates Tlatelolco’s treaty, which since 1967 is mandatory for us to preserve the peace zone, ”said Venezuelan Chancellor.

Therefore, he demanded “the immediate retirement of these military assets of the Caribbean Sea and our coasts.”

He also requested that in the bosom of CELAC there is “reflection and action” in defense of Latin America as a peace zone, a statement made in 2014 by the 33 members of that block. Therefore, he asks “all the necessary actions for consolidation.”

Gil crossed out the reason for an “unusual and rude display” where “a false narrative has been used pointing to Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro, of being leaders of an alleged poster of smuggling of narcotics.”

The head of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry referred to the fact that this narrative of Venezuela as drug producer “has been denied even by the US agencies themselves, such as the State Department.”

«Principles that in Son optional»

In his speech, the representative of Nicaragua said that there are “principles that are not optional such as respect for the sovereignty of states, to sovereign equality, non -interference.”

The Central American country “rejects the use of force in the region” and calls to keep Latin America as a “zone of peace and tranquility.”

“We cannot allow our region to be destabilized,” said Nicaraguan diplomat and added: “Today is a country but tomorrow could be any of us.”

On this day an “emergency meeting” convened by Colombia is held to discuss “the existing concerns around the recent military movements in the Caribbean,” the Foreign Ministry of that country reported last Sunday. With RT
