Venezuela announces military maneuvers in the Caribbean

Air, sea and land maneuvers will include the plan announced by the Minister of Defense of Venezuela, Vladimir Padrino, in the face of what he considers a “threat” from the United States, which maintains a naval deployment in international waters near the region.

In addition, 2,500 troops will be mobilized for three days on the island of La Orchila, in the Venezuelan Caribbean. La Orchila is an island territory of approximately 43 square kilometers, which is located 97 miles from the coastal region of La Guaira, near Caracas, and where “there have already been preparations” for the development of this new operation.

12 ships of the Bolivarian Navy “in their different classes and types”, 22 aircraft and twenty boats will participate in the ‘Caribe Soberano 200’ campaign maneuver, ordered by the president, Nicolás Maduro.

Vladimir Padrino commented on these plans in a meeting with military commanders broadcast by the state-run Venezuelan Television (VTV) and announced them on his own Instagram account.

“Pretty complete exercise”

The Defense Minister asked to “double” military efforts in the face of a possible armed scenario in the Caribbean Sea. “In this special situation, we have to double our efforts, increase our operational readiness, for a scenario of armed conflict at sea. And we are doing it,” he stated.

In that sense, he explained that the Caribe Soberano 200 plan is “a fairly complete exercise” that involves special forces, intelligence and aerospace groups, among others, as well as the use of underwater, aerial and surveillance drones. Likewise, he pointed out that there will be a “significant deployment of Navy ships”, air defense maneuvers from boats and both maritime and land patrols with the participation of fishermen.
