Air, maritime and land maneuvers will include the plan announced by the Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, to what he considers a “threat” of the United States, which maintains a naval deployment in international waters near the region.
In addition, 2500 troops will be mobilized for three days on the island of the Orchila, in the Venezuelan Caribbean. The Orchila is an island of approximately 43 square kilometers, which is located 97 miles from the coastal region of La Guaira, close to Caracas, and where “there have already been preparations” for the development of this new operation.
12 ships of the Bolivarian Navy “In its different classes and types”, 22 aircraft and about twenty vessels will participate in the ‘Caribbean Sovereign 200’ campaign maneuver, ordered by the president, Nicolás Maduro.
Vladimir Padrino commented on these plans in a meeting with military controls broadcast by the Venezuelan state television (VTV) and announced them in their own Instagram account.
“Fight exercise”
The head of Defense asked to “duplicate military efforts” before an eventual armed scenario in the Caribbean Sea. “In this special situation, we have to double efforts, raise our operational preparement, for an armed conflict scenario in the sea. And we are doing it,” he said.
In that sense, he explained that the 200 Sovereign Caribbean Plan is “a fairly complete exercise” that involves groups of special forces, intelligence and aerospace, among others, as well as the use of underwater, aerial and surveillance drones. He also pointed out that there will be an “important deployment of navy ships”, air defense maneuvers from vessels and a maritime and land patrol with the participation of fishermen. Source: news
