Vehicle and bus accident in zone 1

A serious traffic accident occurred in the morning hours of this Thursday, February 22, on 11th Avenue and 14th Street in Zone 1 of the capital. The drivers of an extra-urban transport bus and a private car were involved in the incident.

Amílcar Montejo, mayor of the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of Guatemala City, indicated that these vehicles impacted and this caused the car to overturn on the asphalt strip.

“After this serious collision, the car was trapped between the public transport and several metal bollards that were on the edges of the sidewalk,” he explained.

He added that the driver suffered blows to different parts of the body, for which he received assistance from firefighters and his transfer to a care center was coordinated.

Pilot fled after accident

Regarding the situation of the bus pilot, Montejo pointed out that, after the road accident, he decided to flee and abandon the unit on public roads. Given this, the PMT coordinated with the National Civil Police to follow up on this case.

The presence of obstacles on this route, which is heavily traveled daily, has generated problems for users, since passage in the area is limited.

“Serious congestion arose for users coming from the Doroteo Guamuch stadium towards the Historic Center,” said the mayor.

Traffic agents maintain a presence in this sector in order to help speed up circulation and avoid further inconveniences.
