After an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed American citizen Renee Good in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Republican vice president of the United States, JD Vance, responded by defending the action of his element in a press conference at the White House, ensuring that since his life was in danger, the agent had shot Good, whom he even called a “terrorist.”
Vance criticized the American media for how they have referred to the agent, the woman and the anti-immigrant operations.
“Not everyone in this room, but many of you have lied about the attack, she was trying to run over the officer with her car, he shot, he defended himself and he had previously been injured in a police operation…”
Media reports contradict what Vance expressed, since according to her ex-husband she was not an activist, she was in the neighborhood because she had dropped her six-year-old son at school, she was a devout Christian and was a housewife.
Vance claimed that groups have been "harassing" immigration agents, which he described as terrorism, when citizens have tried to confront them, leaking their data and going to their homes to demand their work.
He took a stand against these actions and said that instead of stopping "complying with the law", they should continue with them.
He defended that Minnesota authorities do not have the authority to investigate the federal agents involved in the murder and called it "ridiculous."
"The reason this woman is dead is because she tried to hit someone with her car and this guy acted in self-defense," Vance reiterated, although media outlets such as the Washington Post after analyzing videos of the incident determined that the woman was trying to avoid it.
Last August, the Propublica media reported that at least 50 attacks by security agents against drivers during operations against migrants had been documented.
