Van Hool employees after news of bankruptcy: “I would like to stay here until I retire”

Bus builder Van Hool has been holding a special works council since 11 am at which the company will probably announce bankruptcy. This will be accompanied by major job losses. We have already collected some responses from the employees who went to the works council. “I would have liked to stay here,” says Leo.

The reactions to the news about the bankruptcy of the bus builder before the special works council are divided. Some still hope for a future, while others see it as a lost cause. “I don’t expect much from the meeting, the books are closed,” says one of the employees firmly. “I saw this coming for years and the situation has accelerated since January.”

Leo, who works in a department where there may be no layoffs, hopes for a good outcome. “I’ve been working here for 22 years,” he says, somewhat affected. “I really enjoyed working here and I would like to continue working here until I retire. There are good people working here, and that is worth a lot.”

Another employee points to the government. “I worked here last night,” he says. “I have been working as a night watchman for 29 years. I am very sorry that the government cannot or does not want to do more. Where is our Prime Minister? He is the captain of this ship.”
