I
The first few days of the new year usually mean a setback in the industry and a major dearth of noteworthy game previews or announcements, but 2024 has proven to be decent in this respect. We managed to extract and add numerous new features to the Encyclopedia, both those published at the beginning of January and those planned for the future. In the latter group we especially have the extremely ambitious role-playing game The Bustling World. Also there were, among others: some items that received a Polish language version, with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 at the forefront. I invite you to review.
If one of the games below catches your attention, you can add it to your favorites from the Encyclopedia entry (our local equivalent of wishlists). Thanks to this, you will receive a notification when new texts appear about it.
To begin, I’ll introduce you to the most interesting games added to the Encyclopedia in the last week, divided into basic genres. These are not just the newly announced items, but also the ones that may have been revealed some time ago and have now broken through the crowd and landed on our radar.
Newly added games: RPGs
Archelund (PC)
An old-school RPG where exploration is seen from the eyes of the characters (FPP) and turn-based combat is seen from a bird’s eye perspective (similar to Realms of Arkania for example). In Archaelund, we lead a team of 5 through an open fantasy world, the titular land that humanity is rediscovering after hundreds of years.
The game was released on January 8 in Early Access.
The Vibrant World (PC)
An exceptionally large sandbox RPG in isometric projection, enriched with life simulation and strategy elements. In The Bustling World we go to ancient China, where we can run various types of businesses, have adventures, act outside of the law and even establish our own kingdom.
Newly added strategy games
Old World: Wonders and Dynasties (PC)
The fourth Civilization-inspired 4X turn-based strategy expansion, released in 2021. Old World: Wonders and Dynasties brings new dynastic leaders, starting conditions, and world wonders, as well as 100 previously unavailable events, 120 historical characters, and 21 character traits .
The add-on was released on January 11th.
9-Bit Armies: A Little Too Far (PC)
A real-time strategy developed by veterans of the genre – the Petroglyph studio – and which continues their 8-bit series. In 9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far, we lead the chosen side of the conflict to victory. Compared to other productions of this type, the title described stands out, among others: thanks to the voxel graphics.
Airborne Empire (PC)
A spin-off of the 2020 game Airborne Kingdom, which is a production on the border between strategy and role-playing games. In Airborne Empire we deal with the development of the sky city, as well as carrying out tasks for the inhabitants of other settlements and fighting opponents.
Land of Oryn (PC)
A vast real-time strategy game where we go to a fantasy land where we have to rule a kingdom, build cities and wage wars. An original solution in Earth of Oryn is the ability to design buildings from scratch.
Newly added games: more genres
B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux (PC)
A remaster of the 2000 World War II aviation simulator. In B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux, we both take direct part in the action, occupying one of the positions aboard the titular bomber and dealing with command-related matters.
Early access is expected to begin by the end of January.
Nuclear Option (PC)
An aerial shooter with clearly delineated simulator elements. In Nuclear Option we have futuristic fighter planes and helicopters at our disposal and our task is to eliminate enemy forces, including: with tactical and strategic nuclear weapons.
The game has been on sale in Early Access since October 16 (and has a very positive rating on Steam).
Nirvana Noir (PC, XSX/S)
A detective adventure in a surreal noir atmosphere with musical setting, which is the continuation of 2021’s Genesis Noir. In Nirvana Noir we once again play the role of No Man and face the threat of a mysterious cosmic force called the Bigger Bang.
Subspace (PC)
A space shooter with RPG elements and an open world, inspired by, among others, works by HP Lovecraft. In Underspace we play the role of an adventurer who travels the galaxy aboard his own ship and makes a career, for example by fighting monsters in interstellar space.
Skies above the Great War (PC)
An original combination of an aviation simulator and a strategy game. In Skies Above the Great War we find ourselves on the Western Front of the First World War and our task is to command the air forces or take direct part in missions on a map with an area of 10,000 square kilometers.
The game was released on January 11 in Early Access.
The night is gray (PC)
A point-and-click adventure in the thriller/horror tradition featuring hand-drawn graphics and stop-motion animation. In The Night Is Gray we take on the role of Graham, who tries to escape from a forest full of dangers and at the same time ensure the safety of his little protégé.
The game was released on January 5th.
Harmonium: The Musical (PC, Xbox and iOS)
A musical adventure game in which we play the role of a deaf girl who wants to create music that can be heard and seen. In Harmonium: The Musical, we see the symphony she composed come to life before her eyes. The work of The Odd Gentlemen studio uses American Sign Language and other means of non-verbal communication.
Normal June (PC)
A TPP action-adventure game by Finji (Tunic), in which, as teenage Junes, we save our city from a space-time cataclysm. The usual June uses an interesting technique: usually the protagonist moves with “jumps”, but during fights her movements are completely fluid.
Toribash Next (PC)
A continuation of an unusual free fighting game from 2006, where we fight in turn-based mode. We design the shots players perform ourselves, tensing their muscles and bending their joints. New in Toribash Next is, among others: ability to use weapons.
The game will be released on January 24th.
Bootlegger Mafia Racing Story (PC)
An economical title on the border between action and racing games, which takes us back to the times of American prohibition (the 1930s). In Bootlegger’s Mafia Racing Story we play the role of an alcohol smuggler who follows orders behind the wheel of a car, trying not to fall into the hands of the police.
The game was released on January 2.
Ski Jumping Challenge 2024 (PC)
A Polish side view (2D) ski jumping game inspired by the cult classic DSJ. Create your own contestant, don one of the fun costumes, and then help them achieve the highest score in various competitions in Ski Jump Challenge 2024.
The game was released on January 2.

DO YOU KNOW THAT…
On the main page of the Games Encyclopedia, immediately below the list of hardware platforms to choose from, there is a search engine that allows you to find the games that interest you based on genres and themes. Importantly, this is a multi-select search engine, so there’s nothing stopping you, for example, from combining the criteria “strategy games” + “World War I” + “Polish” – and see how many games of this type did the Poles create before World War II Hospital.
As you can see, contrary to my fears, the second review of new products in the Game Encyclopedia turned out to be no worse than the first from the beginning of January, on the contrary (unfortunately I could not finish it in the morning). Therefore from now on it will be published on a regular weekly basis. At least until something unexpected happens…
