JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs) Hadi Tjahjanto stated that the government is currently restoring public services affected by the ransomware cyber attack on the Temporary National Data Center. (PDNS) 2 . The recovery was decided after Hadi met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Monday (1/7/2024).

“I just led a ministerial-level meeting attended by the Minister of Communication and Information, the Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency, and the Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises to discuss the follow-up to the President’s order so that all public services can return to normal in July 2024,” Hadi told reporters as quoted on Tuesday (2/7/2024).

Hadi explained that President Jokowi directed public services to return to normal in July 2024. He also explained that the PDNS 2 service would use a backup server from the Batam cold site.

“One of the service recovery processes is using a backup server from the Batam cold site which is then activated on the PDNS 1 facility and the provider’s Temporary Data Center,” said Hadi.

Hadi emphasized that data backup is an obligation that must be implemented. “This is mandatory, not optional anymore. So if operationally PDNS is running, there is a disruption, there is still a backup, namely in the DRC or Cold Site in Batam and can auto gate interactive service,” he explained.

Furthermore, Hadi also said that the government will prepare regulations related to data placement and its reserves in layers according to the level of data classification starting from strategic data, restricted data, to open data.

“So later there will be general or open data such as statistics and so on that will be stored in the cloud, so that the data in the PDN is not full,” explained Hadi.

In addition, Hadi said, BSSN will continue to improve cyber security by connecting the BSSN control command and activating the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) which will continue to monitor PDN management efforts and data backup.

“Of course, we were also ordered by the President to review the Presidential Regulation/Instruction related to cyber operations including BSSN and its staff, so that later the control command will be easy if a problem occurs,” he concluded.
