The United States intends to deploy in the Naval Base of Rota, in the Spanish province of Cádiz, the destroyer Arleight Burke Flight III of the latest generation, whose radar has more power than those of other ships deployed there, the newspaper El País reported Spanish and American sources on Monday.
The new ship is equipped with an active AN/SPy-6 radar, capable of detecting targets half-distance size compared to the previous versions, which contributes to greater efficacy in missile interception. The destroyers deployed at the Rota base are part of NATO’s antimisile defense.
The basis of Cádiz already houses five American destroyers, including the USS Oscar Austin, which arrived in October 2024. The Arleight Burke Flight III is expected to reach the base in 2026, but the exact date has not yet been determined.
Although the administration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has not yet ended the revision of the deployment of US troops in Europe, the sources assure that the base of Rota will not only lose importance, but will happen the opposite. With RT
