USA: Trump and Biden exchange compliments – “Agyrti”, “unbalanced”

Donald Trump once again called Joe Biden a “scumbag” yesterday Saturday in Texas, addressing the most dedicated supporters of gun ownership, while the Democratic incumbent president of the United States reprimanded his Republican predecessor and opponent in the November 5 election as ” unbalanced” in Georgia, where he continues to campaign in hopes of mobilizing African-American voters.

Between two hearings of his criminal trial in New York, the former president (2017-2021) and Republican candidate made a campaign appearance with an audience of the most hard-line supporters of the right to own a gun, guaranteed by the second amendment of the US Constitution.

In Texas, Dallas, in the south of the USA, Trump secured the support of the NRA (National Rifle Association) at its annual conference. Either way, the powerful gun lobby and the 77-year-old billionaire have long had a privileged relationship, with the NRA pouring tens of millions of dollars into the alt-right candidate’s victorious 2016 campaign.

In front of thousands of members of the organization, Donald Trump said that Joe Biden is “by far the worst president in the history of our country” and “a fraud”. “You’re fired, go, Joe,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience, who also warned, once again, that Biden is all about disarmament.

He also claimed that “Joe Agyrt”, as he now more often calls the Democratic president, is a “threat to democracy”.

“He’s lost”

The 81-year-old Democratic head of state, for his part, was in the southeastern United States and in Georgia, a state he narrowly won in 2020, to continue his campaign by trying to mobilize the African-American electorate.

“My opponent is not a good loser. But he’s lost,” Joe Biden said speaking at a restaurant in Atlanta, warning once again that “our democracy is really in danger.”

Last Friday in the northern US and in Minnesota, Trump repeated his theory, for which there is no evidence, that he won the 2020 election, not his opponent Joe Biden, that his victory was stolen by fraud.

Biden reacted yesterday, Saturday stressing that his opponent “is not just obsessed with losing in 2020”, but “is clearly unbalanced”.

“We cannot let this man become president. The future of our children is at stake,” he added at the event at a restaurant in the African-American community in Atlanta.

Today, Sunday, Joe Biden is expected to speak to students at Morehouse College, the university of the African-American community where the iconic hero of the struggles for civil and political rights in the USA, Martin Luther King, studied.

This appearance, however, has a dose of risk, since it is possible that there will be demonstrations by supporters of the Palestinians in the midst of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas.

49,000 deaths

Trump has already repeatedly vowed that, if returned to office, he would undo measures pushed during current President Joe Biden’s tenure — though they are being called tepid by advocates of much tighter gun control.

As Joe Biden promises to take action to ban semi-automatic rifles, which have been used in the deadliest attacks, Donald Trump is vowing to maintain the status quo and is seeking to cast himself as the gun-owner candidate. “Democrats want to take your guns away,” he said Friday in Minnesota.

“President Biden and I will continue to clash with the gun lobby to guarantee the safety of Americans, while Donald Trump will continue to sacrifice the safety of our children and our communities to satisfy special interests,” countered yesterday US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump spoke at the NRA event amid trouble for the most powerful gun lobby. The organization lost its iconic chairman Wayne LaPierre, who resigned in January ahead of his civil trial in New York, where a jury found him guilty of corruption and mismanagement and ordered him to pay $4.3 million in restitution.

There are more guns in the US than there are people, and their proliferation has resulted in an alarmingly high rate of gun deaths that pales in comparison to those in other industrialized countries.

About 49,000 people lost their lives to bullets in 2021, compared to 45,000 in 2020, a year that had already set a tragic record, in other words more than 130 deaths per day. Half of them were classified as suicides.
