USA: Abuses reported in Louisiana detention centers

Through an investigation, it was discovered that immigrants in nine detention centers in Louisiana are violating federal laws.

Following an investigation that was published on August 26 by a coalition of civil rights groups, it was determined that nine immigrant detention centers in Louisiana- USAsystematically fail to meet minimum standards of care, allowing for widespread abuse and inhumane treatment of inmates.

In the investigation, which was led by the American Civil Liberties Unionanalyzing data obtained during fifty-nine visits to detention centers between the years 2022 and 2024, it was found that federal laws would be violated, as well as, rights humans.

In light of the above, immigrants also reported physical assault, sexual abuse and lack of access to feminine hygiene products. The report was basically compiled through interviews with more than 6,200 people, who were detained.

It should be noted that Luisanais one of the states with the largest number of immigration detention centers in the country, with more than 6,000 immigrants. It should also be noted that most of the jails are located in rural areas, which keeps detainees away from lawyers and their families.
