US to regularly deploy strategic assets to Korean Peninsula

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced this Wednesday that the US will “constantly and routinely” deploy its strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula, the Yonhap agency reports.

Yoon held a meeting with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, at the White House, where the parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to “address regional and global challenges.”

The South Korean president also indicated that Washington had promised to support Seoul in the event of a nuclear attack by North Korea. Additionally, the two allies have agreed to share information on the planning and execution of nuclear operations.

For his part, Biden pointed out that the new Washington Declaration, signed this day, did not stipulate the deployment of US nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula. However, he warned that any nuclear attack by Pyongyang against the US or its allies would lead to the end of the North Korean government.

Any attack with weapons of mass destruction by North Korea will receive a “swift, overwhelming and decisive” response from the alliance, which will draw on the “US nuclear arsenal,” Yoon added. With RT
