The Supreme Court of the United States has rejected this Monday the appeal of Ghislaine Maxwell, accomplice and former partner of the deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, accused of sex trafficking and pedophilia.
The British socialite is serving a 20-year prison sentence for multiple charges of sex trafficking and recruiting minors up to 14 years old for Epstein. The judges have not explained why they dismissed the appeal, opting to keep their current sentence in force.
Maxwell’s lawyers argued that the non-prosecution agreement reached in 2007 by federal prosecutors in Miami and Epstein’s lawyers also protected his “potential accomplices” from federal charges anywhere in the country.
“Of course, we are deeply disappointed that the Supreme Court has refused to hear Ghislaine Maxwell’s case,” one of her lawyers, David Oscar Markus, said in a statement.
«But this fight is not over. “Serious legal and factual issues remain, and we will continue to explore all available avenues to ensure justice is done,” he added.
According to prosecutors, Epstein, who committed suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial, sexually abused minors hundreds of times over more than a decade, and could not have done it without the help of Maxwell, his longtime partner.
Maxwell’s role was to make friends with the girls and then organize their transfer to the tycoon’s residences. Prosecutors also claimed that the woman was sometimes present when the abuse took place. With RT
