The US military launched an attack on Houthi ship-destroying cruise missiles in Yemen. The US forces claimed that the Houthis destroyed seven ship-destroying cruise missiles, a mobile ballistic missile launcher and a drone in Wednesday’s attack. On Thursday (February 22), Qatar-based media Al-Jazeera reported this news.
The US military called the drone strike an attack in self-defense. In a statement on Thursday, the military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said the missiles were being prepared to attack merchant ships and US Navy ships in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, in a post on Telegram on Thursday, an Israeli military spokesman said they had fired a missile at an aircraft that had been attacked in the Red Sea. Sirens were ringing in the Israeli port city of Eilat at this time. However, the Israeli army did not specify who was responsible for the attack.
Earlier, the Iran-backed militia claimed to have carried out drone and ballistic attacks targeting Israel, including Eilat.
The Houthis have been attacking commercial ships connected to the US, UK and Israel in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since last November.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller described the Houthis’ attacks on civilians, civilian ships and innocent sailors as behaving like a terrorist organization.
However, the Houthis claim that they have carried out these attacks in response to Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Houthi spokesman Mohammad Abdulsalam also said that their attacks will continue until the Israeli aggression in Gaza stops.
