One of the sources confirmed that “this is an extremely disturbing and destabilizing” Russian possibility “that we have recently been made aware of.”
The chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner, said on Wednesday that the committee hadmake information about a “serious threat to national security” available to all members of Congress; which according to sources is related to Russia.
“I am asking President Biden to declassify all information related to this threat so that Congress, the administration and our allies can they can openly discuss the actions needed to respond to this threatspokesman Mike Turner said, according to Reuters. He did not provide further information and his office did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
Although Mike Turner and the White House remained vague about the nature of the “threat” in question, two sources and a US official told CNN it was related to Russia. One of the sources confirmed that “This is extremely disturbing and destabilizing” Russian feature “which we were informed about recently”.
House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Capitol Hill that there is no reason for public alarm. Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to President Joe Biden, declined to elaborate. He said he had arranged a briefing for Thursday with congressional leaders and was surprised by Turner’s decision to issue that statement.
Turner’s statement was released as Biden Gov intensifies her criticism of Republicans of Parliament for possible blocking a $95 billion bill which was passed by the Senate and which would provide aid to Ukraine, Reuters also reports. Proponents of the bill argue that a major reason for the United States to support the Kiev government is to repel threats from Russia that extend beyond Ukraine.
