US Lied About Involvement in Kursk Offensive

MOSCOW – Former Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev stressed that Kiev would never have carried out an operation like the invasion of Russia’s Kursk Region without the support of the United States (US) and NATO.

Patrushev accused the US of playing a role in the attack. Last week, Ukraine launched its largest incursion into Russian territory since the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022.

Western officials have voiced their support for the invasion of the Kursk Region but denied prior knowledge of the operation.

“The US leadership’s claims about not being involved in Kiev’s actions in the Kursk Region do not correspond to reality… Without their direct participation and support, Kiev would not have dared to enter Russian territory,” Patrushev told Izvestia in an interview published on Friday (16/8/2024).

President Vladimir Putin’s adviser, recently appointed to oversee Russia’s global maritime strategy, stressed, “The West put a criminal junta at the helm of Ukraine, while NATO countries have supplied Kiev with weapons, military instructors and continuous intelligence while controlling neo-Nazi actions.”

According to him, the operation in the Kursk Region was also planned with the involvement of NATO and Western special services.

The advance of Kiev’s forces was quickly halted by Russian troops, although they retained control of several settlements in the Kursk Region.

According to the local governor, 12 civilians have been killed and 121 others injured in the attack, which has forced more than 120,000 residents to flee.

“These criminal acts stemmed from the anticipation of the imminent collapse of the Kiev neo-Nazi regime,” Patrushev stressed.

He added, “The Ukrainian population is suffering for the sake of American interests, because the US has turned the country into an anti-Russian military project.”
