Police arrested about 100 people among pro-Palestinian protesters at Northeastern University in Boston, US, in response to the use of anti-Semitic slurs, the university said.
“We don’t want innocent lives to be lost. We don’t want children to be killed and buried in mass graves.”

The arrests came as some protesters “crossed the line” and began chanting slogans such as “Kill the Jews,” the university said in a statement on the X platform.

Demonstrations against Israel’s war against Hamas began earlier this month at Columbia University in the US and spread to college campuses across the country.
They pose a serious challenge to US university administrations trying to balance the institutions’ commitment to free speech with complaints that the protests have crossed the line.

Northeastern University called the demonstration a violation of its student code of conduct, but many students said they were willing to face disciplinary action as they called for a cease-fire in Gaza and an end to investment relations with companies with ties to Israel.
In a statement Northeastern said campus police assisted by local law enforcement responded to break up an “unauthorized occupation” on campus.
The university announced that those who refused to show student IDs were arrested.

In fact, videos that have been uploaded on social media show students blocking the exit of the University in order to prevent the police vans from leaving with the arrested.
Massachusetts State Police said 102 people were arrested and are facing trespassing and disorderly conduct charges and are being taken to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility for arraignment and questioning.

The anti-war protest was peaceful and organized by students, Northeastern sophomore Alina Caudle told NBC Boston. He said the vast majority of people involved were students and denounced the university for claiming otherwise.
“It shouldn’t be a partisan issue, it should be simple. We don’t want innocent lives to be lost. We don’t want children to be killed and buried in mass graves,” he added.
