The US has approved a massive $95 billion aid package to provide security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, despite strong objections from Republican hardliners. The much-discussed bill has been passed by the House of Representatives, the lower house of the country’s parliament. News from BBC, Al Jazeera.

Voting for the passage of the bill took place on Saturday local time. Now that bill will be sent to the Democrat-majority Senate. A similar bill passed the Senate more than two months ago. After passing the Senate, the upper house of parliament, the bill will be sent to President Joe Biden to be signed into law.

A total of 423 votes were cast for this bill in the House of Representatives on Saturday. Of these, 210 Democrats and 101 Republicans voted for the bill, and 112 Republicans voted against the bill.

The United States will give the country $61 billion in military aid to deal with the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, $9 billion in humanitarian aid will be given to Gaza, $26 billion to Israel and $8 billion to the Pacific region including Taiwan.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States for the passage of this bill. He said that US lawmakers are going to steer history in the right direction by supporting his country in its fight with Russia.

“The vital US aid bill passed by the US House of Representatives today will protect us from escalating war, save thousands of lives and help both of our countries become stronger,” he said in a post on social media.

On the other hand, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the new US law will deepen the crisis around the world. In a post on Telegram, Zakharova said providing military aid to Kiev was directly sponsoring terrorist activities.
