Uruguay National Team Clashes with Colombian Fans, Darwin Nunez Hit

CHARLOTTE – Coach Uruguay National Team Marcelo Bielsa was shocked to see his players involved in a clash with Colombian supporters after the 2024 Copa America semifinal match at Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, United States, Thursday (11/7/2024) morning.

In a video circulating on social media, the player Uruguay National Team involved in a fistfight with opposing team supporters in the stadium stands. The incident escalated when Darwin Nunez engaged Colombian supporters. As a result, Nunez was hit.

Reportedly, the incident began when Colombian supporters entered the Uruguayan National Team fan stand area and there was friction. The fan area is occupied by the families of La Celeste players – the nickname of the Uruguayan National Team.

Marcelo Bielsa said that after the match he had already left the field. So, he did not know the details regarding the clash between his players and Colombian supporters.

“I think the players are in one corner of the pitch thanking the Uruguayan public for their support,” Marcelo Bielsa was quoted as saying by Tycspors, Thursday (11/7/2024).

The 68-year-old coach said he was very shocked when he heard the news of the commotion. He also regretted that the commotion between his players and Colombian supporters had to happen.

“Then I found out that there were other difficulties. It was really regrettable,” he said.
