Unknown effects of caffeine were found – 2024-02-23 13:57:17

Scientists from the Portuguese State Polytechnic Institute of Higher Education have discovered that caffeine can slow down blood circulation in the brain.

Publika.az reports that the results of the study were published in “Science Direct”.

45 people aged 18-22 who rarely drink coffee participated in the study. The participants’ cerebral blood flow velocity was assessed using transcranial Doppler ultrasound, an ultrasound technique for studying the blood supply to the brain. Then they were divided into two groups – the first group received a dose of 45 grams of caffeine capsules, the second – 120 grams, and the third received a placebo.

30 minutes after taking caffeine, participants were again subjected to transcranial Doppler ultrasound examination.

It was found that caffeine reduced the mean, maximum systolic and end-diastolic cerebral blood flow velocity in the participants in the first and second groups.

The effect of caffeine on the brain is to constrict blood vessels. Headache intensity decreases due to vasoconstriction.

In addition, caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, induces sleep and relieves fatigue. But when the blood vessels are narrowed, the speed of blood movement in them slows down. (baku.ws)
