Dozens of police officers arrest protesters, as demonstrations of this kind multiply, almost everywhere in Europe

Clashes broke out today between police officers and protesters in the University of Amsterdam (UvA)where the students they ask her Monday for the institution to sever all ties with Israelbecause of its military operation in Gaza.

In the footage broadcast by the local TV channel AT5 they can be seen dozens of police arresting protesterswhile the mobilizations of this kind multiply, almost everywhere in Europe, following the example of USA.

“The police began to remove the barricades they had set up in the area” she said in a post on platform X. This operation “had the approval of the mayor”, she added, clarifying that the UvA filed a lawsuit against everyone responsible for disturbing the order and destroying property.

According to the police, in mobilization involved not only students but also persons “not connected to the university (…) and deliberately sought to clash with the police”.

The organizers of the protests and the UvA administration started talks today, but they did not get anywhere, said protesters speaking on public television NOS.

One protester escaped from the police, initially jumping on one bulldozer and thence diving into the channel.

Amsterdam’s city council will discuss the situation in an emergency on Friday.

Several hundred protesters also gathered today at University of Utrecht.
