Universidad de Chile and Palestino celebrate victories on the second date of the National Championship

In a busy weekend for Chilean soccer fans, both Universidad de Chile and Palestino achieved resounding victories on the second date of the 2024 National Championship.

The U began its journey in the local tournament on the right foot by beating Audax Italiano 1-0 in an exciting match that marked the team’s return to the National Stadium after a year and a half. The match was marked by intensity from the beginning, with a dedicated local fan and an electrifying atmosphere. Despite some missed opportunities, it was Cristian Palacios who scored the decisive goal for the Blues in the 69th minute, unleashing euphoria among the 32,000 spectators present.

The university team paid a heartfelt tribute to the memorial of the victims of human rights violations during the dictatorship on their return to the National Stadium. Marcelo Díaz, as captain of the men’s team, and his counterpart from the women’s team, Carla Guerrero, brought a wreath of flowers to the venue.

This, after what was experienced last night in the Chilean Super Cup, where Colo Colo fans carried out several incidents, including a fire in the north gallery that forced the suspension of the match with Huachipato.

On the other hand, Palestino debuted in the championship with a demonstration of offensive power by defeating Cobreloa by a resounding 5-0 at the La Cisterna Municipal Stadium. The “tetracolores” dominated the match from the beginning, with goals from Gonzalo Sosa, Joe Abrigo and Bryan Carrasco in the first half, and two more goals from Abrigo and Cristian Suárez in the second half, thus sealing a crushing victory.
