Workers from the plastics processing industry and torrent and avalanche control receive tangible support in the fight against inflation
Vienna (OTS) – The BAU-HOLZ (GBH) union concludes two collective agreements on a remarkable day. One for the plastics processing industry with wage increases of 7.15 to 9.70 percent and up to 12.5 percent for apprentices and a second for torrent and avalanche control with a wage increase of 7.15 percent from May 1, 2024.
Degree 1: KV plastics processing industry + 7.15 to 9.70 percent – up to + 12.5% for apprentices
Stepping in where the government fails also applies to the plastics processing industry. In the second round of negotiations, the social partners agreed on an increase of 7.15 to 9.70 percent in KV wages. There is significantly more for apprentices with up to 12.5 percent. This means that 10,500 workers from 543 companies will receive a significant wage increase.
Lived social partnership pays off
GBH negotiator Abg. e.g. NR Josef Muchitsch: “In the midst of the inflation crisis and in an extremely tense economic environment, we have achieved a great deal. Thanks to our fair and functioning social partnership, we have achieved a KV agreement that will help employees in the plastics processing industry cope better with inflation. We step in where the federal government has unfortunately failed.”
Completion 2: Torrential and avalanche control + 7.15 percent
This increase is analogous to the collective agreement for the construction trade and the construction industry. The mobility allowance will also be increased: without company traffic by plus 6 percent and with company traffic by plus 4 percent. Muchitsch: “This qualification shows the necessary and deserved respect for around 800 employees in torrent and avalanche control. Because it is precisely these workers who have to do enormous work every day due to the climate crisis, be it in the event of mudslides and avalanches, floods or other environmental disasters. Our construction workers are the real green workers and the torrent and avalanche control workers are our safety guards when it comes to protection and safety during climate disasters.”
Two deals in one day from just one union =
In just one day, the GBH managed to achieve two agreements with wage increases well above the inflation rate for employees in two parallel collective bargaining negotiations.
Muchitsch concluded: “After we managed to agree very good wage increases for 2024 in most of our industries with two-year agreements last year, we have now also been successful in fair and constructive negotiations in two other important industries. I would like to thank the two negotiating teams who managed to achieve really noticeable wage increases in two sectors at the same time. This is also unique for us as GBH.”
