The Office underlined that at the end of the year unemployment increased steadily. With the arrival of winter, seasonal work is gradually coming to an end, especially in the agricultural and construction sectors, and people who have terminated contracts and fixed-term work agreements, or, for example, self-employed workers who have temporarily suspended their activity, they are already registering.
Employers’ interest continues to mainly concern employees in technical and manual professions. There is a long-term demand for skilled craftsmen. For around three-quarters of the vacancies, employers are looking for candidates with a basic educational qualification or lower, while two-thirds of the vacancies are also suitable for foreigners.
People with lower qualifications are very often unemployed, especially those without a high school diploma and basic education. The average age of the unemployed in December was 42.8 years.
The highest unemployment rate was recorded in the Ústí region in December, at 5.7%. In Prague, however, the unemployment rate was 2.8%, the lowest in the Czech Republic. Even in the regions of Zlín and Plzeň it fell below 3%.
