Bayer Leverkusen’s joyride continues. Leverkusen, undefeated in 39 consecutive matches, reached the final of the German Cup with a big win. They beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 4-0. As a result, Leverkusen remained undefeated in 40 consecutive matches in all competitions this season.
Florian Wirtz scored a brace for Leverkusen at home on Wednesday night. The German star footballer scored the first goal in the 35th minute and the second goal (the last goal of the match) in the 60th minute from the penalty.
Jeremy Frimpong started for Leverkusen. He gave the host team the lead in just 7 minutes. Amin Adli doubled the gap in 20 minutes. These two goals and a brace from Wirtz gave Javi Alonso’s side a 4-0 win.
Alanso said, ‘The last match of the season is very important to be the final. We now have a great opportunity and we are happy. It was a long road. We started again in July with new players. But they are playing pretty well. We are proving that on the field and that is important.’
Leverkusen are looking to win the Bundesliga title for the first time this season. Currently at the top of the table with 73 points from 27 matches. Second-placed Bayern Munich are 13 points behind them. There are still 7 matches left to secure the title.
Leverkusen will play against Kaiserslautern in the final on May 25.
