Unauthorized health cabinet scandal in Kayseri: 7-year-old child’s genitals became gangrenous

It was alleged that a 7-year-old boy who was circumcised in an unauthorized health cabin in Kayseri had his genitals cut off after gangrene developed. As part of the investigation launched into the incident, the unauthorized health cabin was closed and 3 people, including the health officer who performed the circumcision, H.Ç., were detained.

According to the information and allegations received; in the incident that took place in Develi district on July 18, father YB took his 7-year-old son FEB to a health cabin in the district. H.Ç., who was learned to be a health officer for 3,500 TL, sent the child home after the circumcision procedure. After a while, swelling and bruising occurred in the child’s genitals. The unfortunate child, who was taken under treatment at Erciyes University Medical Faculty Hospital with the diagnosis of “Gangrene”, had his genitals cut off.

Three people were detained in connection with the incident

Following the investigation launched following the incident, the health cabin determined to be unauthorized was closed, and the health officer H.Ç. who performed the circumcision was suspended. The following statements were made regarding the incident in a statement made by the Kayseri Governorship:

“It was understood that they applied to Erciyes University Hospital with the complication of gangrene that developed after the circumcision procedure performed by H.Ç., a public employee, in a private Health Cabinet located in Develi district on July 18, 2024. The Private Health Cabinet where the circumcision was performed was closed as a result of the unauthorized procedure and H.Ç., who allegedly performed the circumcision, was suspended by the Develi District Governorship. Within the scope of the investigation launched by the Develi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, 3 suspects related to the incident were detained.
