“F-16s have been flying over our district since yesterday,” Pavel Filipchuk, head of the administration of the Kakhovka urban district in the Kherson region, said in a video message on Telegram on Thursday.
“This was done just to cause panic,” he said, as quoted. Sputnik, Friday (9/8/2024).
Kakhovka is located on the largely Russian-held eastern bank of the Dnieper River, which broadly marked the front line for much of the full-scale war.
He expressed confidence that the planes would soon be shot down and destroyed by Moscow forces.
Last Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrival of F-16 fighter jets.
“I am proud of all our people who have mastered this aircraft and have started using it for our country,” Zelensky said that day.
“F-16s are already in the skies of Ukraine, and there will be more,” Zelensky added in a separate statement on Thursday.
The Economist reported that the first ten of the 79 US-made fighter jets had been delivered to Ukraine, without naming the supplier.
Besides that, The Telegraph wrote in late July that Ukrainian pilots had made their first flights with F-16s, using them as “air defense tools.”
