The advance of Ukrainian troops that stormed into Russia’s Kursk region on Tuesday slowed on Saturday as reinforcements from Moscow arrived, but the activity of kyiv’s forces gave rise to fears of new large-scale border attacks.
“Over the past day, attempts by enemy units to penetrate deep into Russian territory have been repelled,” the Russian Defence Ministry said.
Moscow stressed that units of the Sever (North) group and Russian air force, as well as reinforcements that arrived in Kursk between Friday and Saturday, continue to fight the enemy, inflicting up to 175 casualties in one day.
In total, Ukraine has suffered more than 1,100 casualties since the start of the incursion, according to official figures.
Russia also said it was continuing to fight the enemy in Donbas, where the Russian army had improved its positions in several sectors of the front over the past day.
The scant information on the Ukrainian offensive and the silence of the kyiv authorities do not allow analysts to correctly assess its scale.
In its latest daily report, the Institute for the Study of War said that Ukrainian troops had managed to penetrate 20 kilometers into Russian territory, not 35, as reported on Friday.
