In 2024, Ukraine may start using drones with a range of 2,000 km or more, thanks to which the Ukrainian armed forces will be able to compensate for the shortage of medium and long-range missiles, Bild reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.
Unmanned aircraft with a range of up to 2,500 km can be delivered to the Ukrainian army from 10 manufacturers at once by the end of this year. At the same time, the Ukrainian design bureau “Luch” developed the Sokol-3000 drone, capable of traveling up to 3,300 km. “Missiles are a thing of the past. Drones are the future,” a source told the publication.
If the information is correct, then the Urals or the Far North of Russia may be in the affected zone of the Ukrainian armed forces. Ukrainian drones will be able to fly, for example, to the Murmansk region, where there are about 80 military bases. Among them is the place where the strategic bombers shelling Ukraine are based – Olenya Airport.
Last Tuesday, Ukrainian drones hit targets in Tatarstan for the first time – 1,300 km from the front line. One of the strikes was carried out by a Ukrainian-made UJ-22 drone. Earlier it was believed that its maximum flight range did not exceed 800 km. Another strike was carried out by a drone created on the basis of the Ukrainian Aeroprakt A-22 “Flying Fox” ultralight aircraft.
Commenting on the attack, the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minikhanov, called on businesses in the region to protect themselves from attacks by Ukrainian drones. According to him, “we don’t need to wait for missile defense to work; it solves other problems. We have to solve it ourselves. Every enterprise, every municipality, every city.”
The head of the region added that the incident shows the most vulnerable areas in Tatarstan. “Wake up guys, no one will protect us but ourselves,” Minikhanov summed up.
