Ukraine: “Sea Baby” aquatic drone can launch missiles

The Ukrainian “Sea baby” aquatic drone has been used in several attacks against Russian ships and infrastructure. Now Ukraine says it has equipped the drone with missiles.

In early January, the Ukrainian intelligence service SBU shared a video that, according to the SBU, is supposed to show “Sea baby” drones firing missiles at Russian ships. According to Ukrainska Pravda, the missiles were launched when Russian ships attempted to sink the drones, Business Insider writes.

It all must have happened near the Crimean peninsula. It is not specified when the accident should have occurred.

Attack on the Kerch bridge

The “Sea baby” is said to have been used in several attacks against the Russian Black Sea Fleet during the nearly two-year war.

Last August, Ukrainian intelligence said that two aquatic drones of the type were behind the attack on the Kerch bridge on the Crimean peninsula in July 2023. Two people were killed in the attack. The road and railway bridge suffered extensive damage.

According to Ukraine, during the attack the drones were equipped with 850 kilograms of explosives each.
