* The Netherlands bought 4 Barracuda-class nuclear attack submarines

According to Bulgarian Military, the French Naval Group will build 4 Barracuda-class submarines for the Royal Netherlands Navy in Cherbourg, France. These diesel-electric submarines, named Orka, Zwaardvis (Swordfish), Barracuda, and Tijgerhaai (Tiger Shark), will replace three aging Walrus-class vessels.

Dutch Defense Minister Christoph van der Maat said that from 2034-2037, the first two submarines are expected to be put into use.

Barracuda class submarines, also known as Suffren class submarines, are nuclear attack submarines developed by France. In terms of size, the Barracuda-class submarine is about 99.5m long and 8.8m wide, making the ship operate efficiently and optimize speed and stealth. The displacement of the Barracuda class submarine is about 5,300 tons.

The ship is equipped with a K15 pressurized water reactor, allowing the submarine to operate at high speed and be able to dive for long periods of time without surfacing, providing a strategic advantage in stealth, as well as endurance.

The crew of Barracuda-class submarines is usually about 65 people, including officers, sailors, and experts who operate systems and weapons on the ship.

Barracuda-class submarines are equipped with many weapons systems, electronic warfare systems and advanced communications equipment.

Regarding weapons, Barracuda-class submarines are equipped with torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, and land attack cruise missiles. This diverse arsenal allows the ship to attack a variety of targets, from submarines and surface ships to land-based installations.

The ship can dive up to 350m, making it difficult to detect and easy to attack targets from a relatively safe position. When necessary, the ship can operate underwater continuously for several months.
