Ukraine claims it blew up a Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk –

Ukrainian underwater drones “Sub Sea Baby” blew up a Russian submarine class 636.3 “Varshavyanka” (according to the NATO classification – Kilo), which was located in the port of Novorossiysk, the Security Service of Ukraine announced.

The service posted a video on social media showing the suspected explosion of the submarine in the harbor. “As a result of the explosion, the submarine suffered critical damage and was effectively disabled,” the SBU statement said.

The submarine was carrying four Kalibr cruise missile launchers, which Russian forces use to strike Ukraine, the SBU said, estimating the cost of one Varshavyanka-class submarine at approximately $400 million.

There is no independent confirmation of the submarine explosion in Novorossiysk. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not comment on the SBU’s statement.

In the fall of 2025, Ukrainian drones repeatedly attacked oil terminals in the port of Novorossiysk, which also houses a naval base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. In the city itself, residential buildings were attacked, as well as the office of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
