A productive and enriching seminar was enjoyed by young Lagunero athletes who practice mixed martial arts, by José Alberto “Teco” Quiñonez and Genaro “Rayadito” Valdez, Mexican fighters who are part of the ranks of the Ultimate Fighter Championship, the most important company of the spectacle of professional mixed martial arts, worldwide.
It was in the facilities of the Sosa Klan gym, in the Los Nogales neighborhood of this city, that the seminar took place last Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15, with the presence of Professor Frank Sosa, currently ranked number 1 in all Mexico in its category, within the discipline of Brazilian jiu jitsu. Around two dozen young people, practitioners of this demanding sporting discipline, attended the seminar on both days, which had theoretical and practical lessons, with fights in which the concepts presented by both fighters could be applied.
In addition to having the motivation of having the presence of fighters who are already part of the UFC, the Laguneros were able to hear firsthand some advice, recommendations, tips and motivation for the practice of mixed martial arts, as well as everything that they complements, such as training, injury prevention, rest, nutrition and even readings, all with the goal of being complete fighters. Once the second day of the seminar was over, there was a meeting with the speakers, who shared their joy at observing that there is a lot of interest from the people of La Laguna in the practice of MMA.
José Alberto “Teco” Quiñonez, nicknamed this way because at some stage in his life he played soccer with the Estudiantes Tecos organization, is a native of Tlaltenango, Zacatecas and currently competes in the Bantamweight division. After winning fights in the Mexican MMA circuit, he was selected to be part of the television program and reality show “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America”, where he managed to reach the grand final of the Bantam division and it was then that he gave the He jumped to the UFC, debuted in 2013 and to date has 12 victories, 3 of them by knockout.
“There is a very good level here in La Laguna. I had already met a couple of fighters, in this MMA union, so we knew that we came to a good place in Torreón to spread our movement, “La Malilla”, by joining gyms, we met Professor Sosa and we came to work with his people We hope to get fighters out of here, because the level is good and we hope it continues to grow. “We want all the children to come, to feel included, boys, girls, women, everyone, because we are seeing that whoever wants to get ahead in sport, who wants to fight and be recognized, can do so under good guidance,” said Quiñonez.
