UEFA: “These 5 ‘Belgians’ will conquer Europe in 2024”

2024 promises to be another very exciting football year. Not only will all the national and European competitions end in the next few months, but the European Championship in Germany is also scheduled for the summer. Without a doubt the general public will be introduced to new sensations.

UEFA is already making some predictions, because just like in previous years, the European Football Federation has compiled a list of 40 players under the age of 21 that they think we should keep an eye on in the next calendar year, because they could develop into European stars.

UEFA believes in 5 ‘Belgians’

This also includes five players who will sound very familiar to Belgian footballers due to their connection to the Red Devils or the Jupiler Pro League. UEFA expects a lot from Johan Bakayoko (PSV), Bilal El Khannouss (KRC Genk), Antonio Nusa (Club Brugge), Gift Orban (AA Gent) and Arthur Vermeeren (Antwerp) in the coming year.

These are no big surprises, because the five already made a big impression last year. Bakayoko and Vermeeren, for example, have already been revelations in the Champions League this season, while Nusa has already been crowned the second-youngest goalscorer ever in champions’ ball in 2022.

Orban also elected

Orban’s presence on the list is perhaps noteworthy, as the Nigerian has had a difficult time at AA Gent over the past six months. His goal production stopped completely and he ended up on the bench more and more often, much to his disappointment.

However, UEFA highlights his impressive performances last season, including the fastest ever European hat-trick against Basaksehir, and the fact he has scored without any problems in the Conference League this season. After all, of his twelve goals this season, Orban has scored nine in Europe.
