Typhoon Jelawat weakened into a tropical depression before reaching the mainland of our country

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, early this morning (December 18), after entering the mainland of the Eastern Southern Philippines, Typhoon Jelawat weakened into a tropical depression.

At 07:00, the location of the tropical depression’s center was at about 7.9 degrees North latitude; 126.4 degrees East Longitude, on the eastern mainland of the Southern Philippines. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is strong at level 7 (50-61km/h), gusting at level 9, moving west, about 20km/h.

By 7 a.m. on December 19, the location of the tropical depression’s center was at about 8.5 degrees north latitude; 119.8 degrees east longitude, in the southeast waters of Palawan island (Philippines). The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is strong at level 6-7, with gusts at level 9. The tropical depression moves in the West-Northwest direction, traveling about 25km per hour.

By 7 a.m. on December 20, the location of the tropical depression’s center was at about 9.5 degrees north latitude; 115.1 degrees east longitude, about 230km south-southeast of Song Tu Tay island. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is strong at level 6, with gusts at level 8. The tropical depression moves in the West-Northwest direction, traveling about 20-25km per hour, entering the East Sea.

From the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression moves mainly in the West-Southwest direction, traveling 15-20 km per hour and gradually weakens.

On the sea in the Southeast region of the Middle East Sea and the Northeast region of the South East Sea, from the night of December 18, the wind gradually increased to level 6, gusting to level 8; rough sea.
