Two years have passed since the murder of Marcelo Pecci

ASSUMPTION. Today, May 10, marks two years since the tragic murder of the deputy prosecutor of the Specialized Unit to Fight Organized Crime, Marcelo Pecci, on the sunny beaches of Islas Barú, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Pecci and his wife, journalist Claudia Aguilera, were enjoying their honeymoon when they were surprised by two men aboard a jet ski, who ended the prosecutor’s life with three shots, one of them fatally in the head. .

From that moment on, the case mobilized the authorities of Colombia, Paraguay and the United States, triggering an international mega-operation to capture those responsible. After an intense investigation, the perpetrators of the crime were identified, all of them of Colombian and Venezuelan origin.

The executors of the plan, identified as Wender Still Scoth Carrillo, Eiverson Zabaleta Arrieta, María Isabel Londoño, Cristian Camilo Monsalve and Francisco Luis Correa Galeano, were captured in a police operation in Medellín. In addition, the financial network behind the crime was discovered, led by the brothers Ramón Emilio and Andrés Felipe Pérez Hoyos, along with Margareth Chacón Zúñiga, sentimental partner of Andrés Felipe Pérez Hoyos.

The Pérez Hoyos brothers were sentenced to 25 years and 6 months in prison, while Chacón Zúñiga received a sentence of 39 years and 10 months, being considered one of the masterminds of the attack that shocked the world.

Two years after this event, the relatives of the murdered prosecutor continue to ask for justice, mainly to reach the moral author of the crime.
