Two tent parties in Hooghalen, one next year?

Hits blare through the speakers, caps pop off bottles and balls pop out of milk cans. New Year’s Eve in and around the tent of the DB barrack (De Boshut) in Hooghalen went on all day and will continue uninterrupted into the evening. But perhaps the last in its current form.

It’s the third time the shack has spent the year like this, says Mika Paasman. “We started with the carbide shot, with a few buses. Then the tent was added and then it got bigger.”

In the tent they shout loudly into the microphone, but it turns out to be an unsuccessful talent show. Easter Man: “There aren’t many winners from what I hear.”

2023 will end with about 20 or 30 males. Of course, fireworks shouldn’t be missing, there will be plenty of them at midnight. But in reality this is a secondary problem. Having fun together is what matters. “Things are going really well, it’s fun and there’s a lot of beer,” Paasman says.

After midday the group heads to the Hooghalen youth center, just like the rest of the village. To wish each other the best for the new year.

A little further on, another group celebrates the end of the year in a similar way. “Next year we’ll probably go together. It will be better. A big party, all in Hooghalen,” says Paasman.
