“We learn with shock and great sadness of the death of Farid, a high school student who was violently attacked last Wednesday near his school,” the municipality said in a press release released Saturday evening on social networks.
His attack, with baseball bats, according to an AFP police source, occurred on Wednesday morning a few hours before the death of a 14-year-old teenager, named Sedan, who was stabbed to death in the evening on the Basilique subway platform. Saint-Denis station.

Farid A., 18, was a few meters from his high school and was preparing to take a mock high school diploma test “when a car stopped at (his) height for an operation similar to a punitive expedition”, the city reported.
“The attack was fleeting, cold, indiscriminate and extremely violent with the use of blunt objects. The attackers left the victim on the ground,” she explained.
Seriously injured, the young man was transported to Beaujon hospital in Clichy and placed in an artificial coma by doctors.
Invite calm
His death coincided with the gathering of several hundred people on Saturday morning in front of the Saint-Denis town hall in memory of Sedan, in bitter cold but under a radiant winter sun.
This demonstration, in the presence of numerous local elected officials, was an opportunity for vibrant appeals for calm and the rejection of violence, in a context where nerves are tense.
“I ask everyone, all their friends, no violence, no revenge! Not in the name of Sedan, not in the name of Saint-Denis, not in the name of a neighborhood that we are taking over!”, urged Sedan’s older brother, Mory, into the microphone, in front of a crowd made up mainly of young people.
“A little brother, a son, lost his life. At 14, listen, 14″, he said. “I invite you to respect your parents, to listen, not to argue, not to be violent, because it often ends badly!”, he insisted seriously.
The day after Sedan’s murder, a 19-year-old turned to the judicial police department, in charge of investigating the teenager’s death. He was charged and placed in pre-trial detention, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday.
“There appears to be no connection in the state of the investigation between this murder” and the death of the second Saint-Denis teenager, Seine-Saint-Denis prosecutor Eric Mathais said in a news release.
The motive for Sedan’s murder remains to be clarified at this stage. If it seems linked to a “quarrel between young people”, his exact nature remains unknown because the suspect “did not speak about it at all” to the investigators, the prosecution specified.
Parents urge to keep their children at home
The combustible context in Saint-Denis has led to a reinforcement of the police force and a ban on gatherings by the town hall until Monday. The authorities also asked the students’ parents to keep their children at home over the weekend.
Also on Friday, “attempts at altercations” occurred in the city, some of them in the name of “revenge”, which led to around twenty preventive arrests by the police, according to mayor PS Mathieu Hanotin.
“Saint-Denis loses another of its children. This is an absolute tragedy (…) Everyone must take the measure of their responsibilities to put an end to the cycle of violence”, invited the city of Saint-Denis in its press release on Saturday evening, reiterating its “message”: “ the rejection of violence between and towards our young people”.
