On April 1, two medical scientists from Bangladesh were awarded the state title in Cuba. Dr. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Head of Interventional Hepatology Division. Dr. Mamun Al Mahtab Swapnil and Visiting Researcher of Research Center for Global and Local Infectious Diseases of Auta University in Japan. Sheikh Mohammad Fazle Akbar.
On behalf of the president of the country in a stylish ceremony organized in the city of Varadero, in their hands ‘Carlos J. Finley Order’ was handed over by the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Eduardo Martinez Diaz.
‘Carlos J. The Finlay Order’ is Cuba’s highest state medal for scientific research. The Cuban President issued a decree in this regard. Carlos J., the discoverer of yellow fever and the first Cuban to be nominated for the Nobel Prize. The Cuban government introduced the medal in Finall’s name.
To contribute to science, the Cuban government annually awards national and foreign scientists ‘Carlos J. Honored in Finlay Order’.
After receiving the medal, Professor Dr. Swapneel said, maintaining the dual status of doctor and medical scientist is very challenging in this country. My deepest gratitude to the Government of Cuba. Because such recognition gives encouragement to forget all the difficulties and move forward anew.
Professor Dr. Cuban Academy of Sciences in 2019 to develop a new medicine for Hepatitis B called ‘Nasvac’. Swapneel and Dr. Akbar was awarded the ‘Premio National’, the highest medal of the Academy of Sciences, along with Cuban and Japanese co-researchers. Professor Dr. Swapneel was awarded the highest award of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences ‘Bass Gold Medal Award’ in 2021.
