Two candidates murdered in less than a week, violence in Coyuca de Benítez

During the afternoon of this Wednesday, May 29, a candidate for the municipal presidency of Coyuca de Benítez, Guerrero, was murdered during a political event.

The events occurred during the closing of the campaign of the candidate of the PRI, PAN and PRD coalition, José Alfredo Cabrera Torres while a man points a firearm at his head.

José Alfredo is the second assassinated candidate of the PRI, PAN and PRD coalition in less than a week in the municipality. Last Thursday, May 16, the dismembered body of the candidate for municipal councilor Aníbal Zúñiga Cortés and his wife Rubí Bravo Solís was found.

Candidate for councilor of Coyuca de Benítez found dismembered

On Thursday, May 16, six dismembered bodies were found and two of them corresponded to the candidate for city councilor for the PRI, PAN and PRD coalition Aníbal Zúñiga Cortes and his wife Rubí Bravo Solís.

The bodies were located around 10 in the morning, on Ruiz Cortines Avenue, an abandoned truck was found. In which inside the bed of the truck there were two dismembered corpses inside sacks covered with quilts.

The State Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation folder to identify and prosecute those responsible for the crime of qualified homicide, an event that took place on Thursday morning on Ruiz Cortines Avenue, in the municipality of Acapulco.

After an ambush, 13 members of the SSP are murdered

On October 23, 2023, in an ambush, they murdered elements of the Secretary of Public Security (SSP) of the municipality of Coyuca. The bodies were found together, handcuffed with their hands behind their backs and face down, after responding to a report following an alleged emergency call.

According to the police report, around 12:30 p.m., when the Coyuca de Benítez Police convoy was passing through El Papayo, it was ambushed by armed men.

The victims were identified as 12 agents and the head of Public Security of the Municipality, Honorio Salinas Garay.

Documents of kidnapping victim located

Last Friday, August 4, 2023, the Guerrero Attorney General’s Office arrested María Albina “N”, mother of one of the main generators of violence known as Omar Francisco “N”, alias “Franky”, identified as the leader of the Independent Cartel. of Acapulco (CIDA).

Therefore, operations were deployed in the municipalities of Acapulco and Coyuca de Benítez, to complete three search warrants against CIDA targets.

In Coyuca de Benítez, agents located identification and clothing of a kidnapping victim “Nicol” and in Acapulco the victim’s bank documents and almost 3 kilos of green grass were located.

Armed attack against security secretary

During December 1, 2022, an armed attack was reported against the Secretary of Public Security David Borja Padilla and his bodyguards. The official was injured, so he had to be transferred to a hospital in Acapulco.

The events occurred on the Costa Grande of Guerrero, on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway, near a military checkpoint, while Borja Padilla was traveling in a truck.

According to the police report, the secretary’s bodyguards repelled the attack as soon as they were shot by armed men aboard a truck.

Kidnapping and murder of pharmacy chain owner

On Saturday, January 8, 2022, Roberto Morales Silva, owner of a pharmacy chain in Acapulco, was kidnapped and was found dead with traces of gunshot wounds the next morning, Sunday, January 9.

The body was found near the community of Bajos del Ejido on the Paso Texca bypass, a road that connects the municipalities of Acapulco and Coyuca de Benítez, in Guerrero.

According to the State Police report, armed men took the 48-year-old businessman, who owned the Farmacia del Centro chain, located in different parts of the port of Acapulco, from his home.
