Two are publicly executed in Afghanistan – 2024-02-23 08:56:19

Afghanistan is going to publicly execute two people in a football stadium in eastern Afghanistan. Provincial officials say four people have been publicly executed since the Taliban took power. News agency AFP confirmed the information.

The information and culture department of Ghazni province said in a notice that the punishment will be carried out publicly on Thursday (February 22). However, no clear information has been given on the type of crime committed by those to be executed.

Public executions were common during the Taliban’s first rule from 1996 to 2001. However, only two have been executed since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. Those two were accused of murder.

In the country, public flogging was used as punishment for other crimes, including theft, adultery and drunkenness. Last year, the supreme leader of the Taliban, Hibatullah Akhundzada, ordered the full implementation of all aspects of Sharia.
