Twenty years later, a surprise “fits” into the Euro

Denmark in 1992. Greece in 2004. These are the two biggest surprises of all time in European Championship finals. Hard to tell which was more important. The Danes gathered from the… beaches, entered the Euro through the “window” and came out with the cup in their hands. For Greece, the fairy tale was unrepeatable. Magical. Dreamy. Twenty years have passed since then and there hasn’t been an event where we’ve had a champion we didn’t expect. In 2008 and 2012 it was won by Spain, in 2016 by Cristiano’s Portuguese, in 2021 by Italy. The picture we have so far from EURO 2024, in which the second matchday starts today, shows that many of the favorites can be dealt with.
