food (ots) – An important milestone for more transparency and sustainability in the raw materials sector has been reached: the market launch of TÜV NORD CERA 4in1, the first globally applicable, four-stage sustainability certification concept for mineral raw materials along the entire value chain right up to the end product. The TÜV NORD CERA 4in1 Performance Standard (CPS) supports production facilities in the areas of mining, processing, smelting and refining of mineral raw materials in meeting ESG criteria in the areas of environmental, social and responsible corporate management. .
The increasing focus on sustainability and climate protection brings with it an increasing number of tasks and legal regulations for the raw materials sector in order to increase transparency and traceability in the procurement of mineral raw materials. Since previous certification systems have only covered parts of the value chain or certain minerals, complete certification has not yet been possible. The EU-funded TÜV NORD CERA 4in1 certification system fills this gap.
What is TÜV NORD CERA 4in1?
CERA 4in1 is the first certification concept to enable proof of ESG conformity along the entire value chain and can be used worldwide for all types of minerals and for any size of company. Sandra Gerhartz, Managing Director of TÜV NORD CERT, explains: “Sustainability certifications in the raw materials sector are complex. In order to enable transparency right down to the end consumer, CERA 4in1 offers a lean certification process that reliably measures and certifies compliance with ESG guidelines.”
What are the benefits of the CPS?
With the TÜV NORD CERA 4in1 Performance Standard (CPS), the first of the four CERA 4in1 standards is available on the market – the other standards will follow gradually until 2026. This allows companies of all sizes in the areas of mining, processing, smelting and refining of mineral raw materials have the ESG compliance of mining sites, processing facilities and smelters certified. “The CPS contributes to the long-term profitability and competitiveness of companies in the raw materials sector,” confirms Dr. Andreas Hucke, TIC Manager CERA 4in1, TÜV NORD CERT.
