Turkey’s second astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever stated that they will focus on studies aimed at ensuring that Turkey gets the maximum share from the economic ecosystem that will develop in space until the next manned space mission, and said, “During this process, we will continue microgravity research without slowing down, learn new information from there and implement much more ambitious experiments.”
Atasever made evaluations to an AA correspondent in Bursa Uludağ, where he came for the 26th Sky Observation Event.
Pointing out that the event was held in a truly festive atmosphere, Atasever explained that the participants had the opportunity to visit the stands of various institutions’ science centers and participate in the activities there.
Atasever reported that sky observations were carried out day and night throughout the event, and said that they made participants of all ages from different parts of Turkey love the sky, and that they contributed to increasing their interest in them by observing planets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae at telescope stations in an environment where light pollution is as low as possible.
Stating that it is very valuable that the young people here, who will form the human resources for the studies that Turkey will conduct in the space field in the coming years, are interested in these areas, Atasever said, “We have a responsibility to the 15 thousand people who applied for the event. We are doing our part in terms of telling them about the missions we have carried out, providing them with a perspective on what those missions will add to our country and their lives, and establishing a bond with them. We want to participate in sky observation events and meet with our young people at such festivals from now on.”
“We are expecting young people to Adana for TEKNOFEST”
Atasever also reported that he will be attending Turkey’s aviation and space festival, TEKNOFEST, which will be held in Adana between October 2-6 this year.
Stating that young people have embraced the National Technology Move with the TEKNOFESTs held so far, Atasever made the following assessment:
“The generation that we aim for, that develops, produces, thinks, analyzes and questions technology, has started to emerge in Turkey. My wish is for this interest to continue to increase in the coming years. By organizing TEKNOFESTs in different regions of our country, we want to provide a technological perspective to the future plans of millions of young people living in our country. After we complete our space missions, we will continue to meet with them for our main mission of making society and our young people love space. We are expecting young people who are interested in technology from various regions of Turkey to Adana and we cannot wait to come together with them at TEKNOFEST.”
“The analysis process of the experiments continues”
Atasever pointed out that the tasks assigned to them within the National Space Programme were successfully completed and said that the analysis processes of the scientific experiments they conducted were continuing.
Stating that steps are ongoing regarding new studies that can be added to these experiments in the future, Atasever noted the following:
“Turkey’s manned space missions are planned to continue, as all our statesmen have expressed. We want to conduct experiments in microgravity until our new manned space mission is realized. At this point, awareness has started to form in our academia and private sector, our institutions have started to think about how we can benefit from the special environment offered by microgravity and to produce new projects. Until the next manned space mission, we will focus on studies aimed at ensuring that Turkey gets the maximum share from the economic ecosystem that will develop in space and we will follow all developments in this field. During this process, we will continue microgravity research without slowing down, learn new information from there and implement much more ambitious experiments.
In the coming years, I will continue to share the experiences I have gained through these space missions with our youth and encourage them to become the astronauts and space engineers of the future. I also want to be involved in projects that will provide significant gains for Turkey by using my engineering education from the past and the work experience I have gained in the field of space technologies in microgravity production activities, which are really important potential areas for Turkey.”
