Turkey has announced that it will support the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for Secretary General of NATO, Turkish media reported.
On April 29, Turkey informed the other NATO member countries that it will support the candidacy of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, who at the end of last week met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to A Haber TV, quoted by BTA.
According to information received from Turkish officials, Turkey has announced that it will support Rütte’s candidacy for the new Secretary General of NATO, writes the electronic edition of “Aidenluck”.
In a meeting on Saturday with Rutte in Istanbul, Erdogan stressed that it is very important for Turkey to start work on modernizing the customs union between Turkey and the EU as soon as possible.
According to him, Ankara expects support from the Netherlands in the relations between the EU and Turkey, so that Brussels treats these relations from a “fair and strategic perspective”, informed the Anadolu Agency. Erdoğan also said that it is important for the future Secretary General to prioritize maintaining NATO’s primary role in ensuring Euro-Atlantic security.
