In recent days, information has been spread about the dangerous situation of tuberculosis in Azerbaijan.
Publika.az reports that pulmonologist doctors shared about this on the social network.
It was noted that although tuberculosis is considered a rare disease all over the world, this disease is spreading day by day in our country.
According to pulmonologist Hasan Hassanzadeh, if urgent measures are not taken, it may be too late:
“The situation related to tuberculosis in our country has become serious and dangerous. Let no one say that I am protected. In this matter, either society must be protected or someone cannot be protected individually.
Measures are insufficient. Treatments are inadequate. The knowledge of the healers (there are exceptions) is insufficient. Education is insufficient. Compulsory treatment laws and enforcement are a must. The patient who knowingly hides the disease and illness and does not receive treatment should be held responsible. Actions should be started immediately, or it’s already too late.”
We contacted the Lung Disease Research Institute about the problem. In response to our inquiry, it was reported that the diagnosis of tuberculosis disease should be confirmed only by a phthisiatrician, based on special examination methods. This is possible only in specialized tuberculosis institutions.
The detection of tuberculosis microbacteria (the causative agent of tuberculosis disease) is confirmed as a result of examinations accepted and carried out in special tuberculosis laboratories, in the world and in our country, based on WHO recommendations:
“Based on the level of these laboratories and special examinations, the Scientific Research Institute of Lung Diseases of the Ministry of Health and anti-tuberculosis institutions are conducted.
In accordance with clinical protocols, doctors working in primary health care, qualified specialists, and any specialists working in private clinics should refer the patient to specialized tuberculosis institutions for confirmation if they suspect the diagnosis of tuberculosis. Within the framework of the National Tuberculosis Program, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Compulsory Medical Insurance Agency fully detect, treat and prevent tuberculosis and are available to any citizen living in the country. If tuberculosis is detected with complete certainty, a warning is sent to the Republican Hygiene and Epidemiology centers and the patient is registered. After that, according to the patient’s clinical protocols, the doctor begins the treatment and the treatment is continued under the full supervision of the doctor.”
The institute said that the first important aspect of prevention of tuberculosis is the prevention of the disease. “Collaborative” cooperation with primary care contacts, infected persons, early detection of risk groups and primary health care, even private hospital doctors should be careful in this matter:
“Our goal is proper education of the population, directing them to the right address, proper examination, diagnosis and treatment. We urge citizens not to rely on false information spread on social networks, but only on the official information of state institutions.
In 2022, a total of 5,320 tuberculosis patients were registered in the country. Among them, 2,939 people were diagnosed with tuberculosis for the first time in their life, and 2,381 patients were registered again”. (Qafqazinfo)
